That made me cry.

Oh man…you totally made me cry. I grew up watching Mr. Rogers. That was my favorite tv show. Mr Rogers was one of those guys who was sweet and kind, without being creepy (to me, anyways). And that was very very rare in my life. He left a wonderful legacy amongst our generation.

sniff…miss that guy

My mom and I love him more than words can say. When our family moved 4 states away from her family (I was only one) it was right before Thanksgiving and she was just too sad to fake the first holiday thing so she sat on the floor in front of the TV with me and Mr. Rogers and he said lovely things about being away from people you love but how being thankful for what is in front of you is the lesson. She cried and played with me. Mr. Rogers made it OK to be sad and OK to be grateful at the same time.
The day he died my mom called me at work and we remembered him and cried together. Thanks for this bit of lovely. (Have you read the book about the letters he wrote to his friend the reporter? Heaven.)

I’ m gonna miss this guy…

Awwww… I loved him too. He spoke at my sister-in-law’s graduation, and I thought how cool is that!? …to have him at the beginning of your schooling tell you that you can be anything you want to be, and then have him there at your graduation telling you, “I am SO proud of you!!”
A cool story I read in the paper when he was alive: he apparently always lived in the same modest building for many years, and drove a modest car. Well, it was stolen one day, and it made the evening news: someone had stolen Mr. Rogers’ car!!
Well, the next morning, it was back in its parking place, with a note taped to the steering wheel saying, “We’re sorry, Mr. Rogers. We didn’t know it was yours.”
I bet he forgave them.
