I was in a hell of a lot of pain last night- I thought it was due to TMJ- so I went to the ER where they prescribed me Ultram. The Ultram didn’t even begin to touch the pain and I got about an hour of sleep last night in little tiny snatches. I decided I might have an abcess tooth or something- the pain is worse than any TMJ pain I have ever had. So I have a dentist’s appointment in half an hour.

And, to add to the agony, St. Mark’s creatinine levels are now in kidney failure. He should be getting dialysis, but no mention of that to him. When your creatinine levels are at a 4.7, that is seriously not good. If my dad dies, I will sue the shit out of everybody involved, mark my words.

The good news about all this is, while things can certainly get worse, I am feeling like this is probably the extent of the bad news for now. Let’s hope and pray this is true.

UPDATE: Well, I went to the dentist and it’s pretty bad. I have four, count ‘em, four abcessed teeth. Gee, I’m so glad I inherited St. Mark’s crappy teeth instead of Mystery Lady X’s good ones. /sarcasm It’s going to cost ten grand to get it all fixed up the right way. I’m going to opt for the cheap way and only fix some of them and not sweat getting a bridge for all my missing teeth. Man, if I hit the lottery, the first thing I’d do besides pay off my student loans is fix my teeth.

Oh man, I’m SO sorry things have been so rough lately. You know all the crap I’ve been through with my Dad, so you know I’m here if you need to talk…or VENT, as is QUITE often the case! Hang in there.

Prayers and good thoughts for you and St. Mark, my friend. I hope you get to feeling better soon.

I don’t even know what to say. Sigh. Except no matter what kind of sh*t is thrown your way, you are still my hero. Concentrate on the minute, the hour, the day. What can you do this minute that will be good?

Go write a post on Curbly or Home-Ec 101 that will be so over-the-top spectacular that Oprah is calling you tomorrow to schedule your appearance.

  4. Rachel

Oh, Ivy, I hope things get better for you soon.

Oral pain sucks (heh-heh, I said oral AND sucks). If money is tight, call over at MeHarry and see if any of the dental students can treat you.

I don’t know the ins and outs but I believe they have to perform x many procedures and need live patients.

I assume they work under the guidance of a full grown dentist…but I don’t know.

  6. Mari

Oh my god! 4? I didn’t even know it was possible to have 4 at the same time. That does suck.

As for Meharry, they do treat patients for a lot cheaper, with a real dentist’s supervision, but I think there is a long waiting list. You don’t want to let those abscesses go any longer than you have to, obviously due to the pain, but also due to the infection that is getting into your body.

    Good luck.

  7. Malia

Shoot, if I win the lottery, the first thing I’ll do is fix your teeth! That’s awful, four at the same time?!?! Sheesh.

Praying for you and your dad!

(HAHA - my word verification is sfuct!)

  8. Kat Coble

I guess everyone already said what I would say about Meharry.

There is a waiting list, but it’s possible to triage in ahead of folks. I imagine your 4 abscesses (oh my gosh) would put you at the top of the queue. Most of the people are there to get cavities filled, as I recall.

But since you already have a diagnosis and need emergent care, I’d bet you’d get in.

    I’m actually dentalphobic, so I can’t even imagine….

Please tell me that the dentist has already given you antibiotics…

As for St. Mark, what are next steps?

There is no pain worse than oral pain. I once had a tooth so infected that the infection actually counteracted the novacaine and they had to pull that shit out with no numbing agent. Talk about disgusting.

Since I am apparently not the only person in Nashville who says that I’d fix my teeth if I won the lottery, I guess I’ll share that glory with you. I wish I could help more, but I can definitely commiserate.

If you need to find a doc that will help you later and has some different payment options, shoot me an email. I’ll be happy to send you my dentist’s info. She’s no frills and awesome.

Good luck - hang in there.

    Ultram?
The last person I knew who took that wound up moving to eastbum****, NY to redo her summer home and ended up trapped there all winter, with 3(or 4-or maybe she was pregnant)kids, tons of snow and no-good, cheating contractors who left her house a disaster, and her husband was down at their other house-am I remembering this right?Do you remember this at all?

I actually started to get worried a few weeks ago when you talked about how well things were going. I wanted to reach in through the screen and say “No! Don’t curse it by talking about it!”

I had an abscess. Delivering a 10 lb baby with no pain meds was better. 4? Not enough pain pills on the planet.
