So, Saddam Hussein was hanged today. I oppose the death penalty, even in this case, but I am left with mixed feelings. I mean, this dude was really, *really* evil. Does being *that* evil give us a right to decide whether people live or die, though?

I don’t know. Will his dying solve some problems, or make them worse? That’s what I really want to know.

I just have such mixed feelings on this.

  1. Sonia

I[’m pro death penalty in extreme cases. Personally, i’m glad he’s dead (yet….I have this weird feeling, he’s actually not dead)….because I think if he were just put into prison for the rest of his life, he eventually would have been freed…either by the gov’t or by his henchmen (if there are any left). It’s good he’s dead. He’s finally met his maker.

  2. Carye

I’m kind of with Sonia on this one. I’m pro death penalty and I’m glad he’s dead. I too have mixed feelings though… but for a different reason. I say I’m pro yet am I? See, I just don’t want to be the one deciding. I don’t want to have that much power (or blood?) on my hands. It’s hard, either way I guess. But yes… as Sonia said. It’s good he’s dead.

We installed him; we uninstalled him. Yet, we’re not colonialists in conquest for natural resources, nosirree!

I have mixed feelings too about this. He was one of the most evil son of a bitches ever, but I still have trouble that it’s alright to execute people.
    I don’t know.

I love y’all…ya know that, but, how y’all can have anything mixed about this man being put to death is way beyond me. Help me understand why it’s ok for an innocent unborn baby to be killed but not a evil, tyrannical, dictator who killed his own people, even members of his own family?

I’m just puzzled with that line of thought.

  6. Ivy, the Great and Powerful

Probably because that’s not a baby, it’s potential, and at that time it’s basically a mass of cells. It’s a medical decision, not a death penalty.

I don’t really care so much that Saddam is dead, it bothers me that supposedly civilized countries up and decided who gets to live or die. It’s the same reason I oppose war, really. If a house had randomly dropped out of the sky onto Saddam, I would have been glad Saddam died. But the arrogance of any country or state that decides “you’re bad, you’re going to die now” is, I dunno, troubling to me.

I also worry that this is going to cause retaliation against the US with some of these batshit groups that are out there in the world. Of course, if we had just kept him locked up forever, that would have been a problem too. So, I dunno.
