As Nashville bloggers and other bloggers around the country join to honor the vicitms of 9/11, I’d like to say a few words.
I woke up fairly late on the morning of September 11, 2001, to the sound of someone mowing a lawn. Anytime I’m woken by the sounds of lawnmowing nowadays, I think of this morning. I looked at the TV that I had left on the previous night, and remember thinking, “I didn’t leave the TV on CNN.” I saw something about the border of Mexico beling closed and thought that was odd. It wasn’t until I went in the living room and turned on my computer that I realized something really *serious* had happened.
It’s been five years now, and we haven’t forgotten. No, I don’t think we will ever forget. I know I can never forget. I could probably easily bend off into a political rant here, but I think doing so would cheapen the memory of the persons who died in this tragedy.
2,996 people died that day. It was a great tragedy for our nation. I prayed on September 11, 2001, and on September 11, 2006 I am still praying. I thanked God it was not my family. I prayed for the families it did happen to. I asked God, “WHY?!” This is something I do not think I will ever understand.
To all the victims, you are greatly missed. To their families, I wish you peace.
