Poor Nate. :(

So some neighborhood kids came down to play with my kids. Aaron was mad, because I told him Nate could come out too. That was the first thing that made me sad for Nate.

Then it got worse. I went outside to watch them for a little while, and Nate was out there trying to talk to the boys. There were 2 boys and a girl- the 2 boys are about 10 and maybe 7, and the girl was 4, maybe 5.

Nate wanted to play with the boys but they were TOTALLY ignoring him.

Nate: Dyes, dyes! (that’s Natelish for guys) Wook! Bird!
Boys: :::::look away:::::
Nate: Dyes! Dyes! Wook! Mommy’s tires. Mommy’s dar. (Natelish for car)
Boys: ::::look away:::::

So then he tried to play with Megs and the little girl, who were looking for roly polies. Nate goes over and pulls up a rock and gets a roly poly.

Nate: Hey, wook! Woly poly!
Girl: :::::snatches roly poly away:::::

What brats. Thank God, they’ve left. I don’t think I’m going to let them play with my kids anymore. I dunno what to do. I’m so hurt for Nate, he could TELL he was being snubbed.

    Poor kiddo. Hopefully Aidan won’t be a turd when we visit.

  2. Shaunahttp://shauna.opishposh.com

    That breaks my heart! I just want to give Nate a big old hug.

    Heather: Aidan’ll be fine, and besides, he’s Nate’s age, and has an excuse, he’s still a baby.

    Those boys were WELL old enough to have some damn manners.

    Shauna: No worries, I gave him a great big hug, and bitched out my 2 older kids about how they need to make sure Nate’s included. Megs actually gave him one of her t-shirts and invited him to have a PJ party with her tonight. :)

    That just breaks my heart :( That’s the thing about kids….there’s always one that ends up snubbed. Any kids close by that are his age?

  5. Ivy, the Great and Powerful

    No, not really. There’s the mexican people that live 2 houses down from me, they have a little girl about Nate’s age, but they really keep to themselves, except for playing mexican polka music for all of us to hear, all the time.

  6. Malia

    We have some neighbors that Sweetpea plays with regularly. They go from sweet to sour in 2 seconds flat. One minute they’re all like we’re best friends and the next they are calling her names and throwing sand. Breaks my heart.

    It’s so hard to see those things happen to our children, probably because we know how much it hurts.

  7. Kat Coble

    I DO feel sorry for Nate. But as the big sister who was 6 years older than her youngest sibling, I know that it can seem kind of unfair to always have the little ones tagging after you.

    But that doesn’t mean the bigger kids have to be rude about it. Megs is my hero for the way she handled it.

  8. Kathy T.

    Here’s what I’d do…. go get some water balloons. Next time you see something like that, say, “Hey Nate! Let’s play!” Then you and Nate splat whatever you can find (besides the kids) and don’t let THEM play. Mwaa-haaaa-haaa.

  9. Sunnie

    Poor Nate. :( I feel this way about Jackson when people just stare at him because he wears a helmet. I am SO tempted to take a sharpie and right “Ask my Mommy why I wear this.” People are so cruel. I blame the parents. I teach my children tolerance. Ask whether than be mean.

    I love Kathy’s idea! Get Nate and do something with him that all the other kids would envy!

    some of it is just kids being kids-not trying to be mean…
    If it makes you feel any better, my oldest, who has had,as you know, a lot of issues similar to Nate’s-is graduating!I tell you this not to brag,but to let you know the possibilities the future holds- He was captain of his basketball team, national honor society, got into some great schools and got an honors program scholarship to the place he has decided to go. He still doesn’t have much to say though.
    I never could have imagined 15 years ago that we’d be where we are today.
    Nate will be fine, because he has YOU!
