I wrote this awhile back on LJ, I figured this would be a good place to put this:

I love America, and I’m glad that I am an American, or at least, I was until lately. Now I mostly consider myself lucky to have been born American, and am hopeful that perhaps there we, the people, could start a new revolution in American history. I don’t know about anyone else, but I am sick to death of the evil, money-grubbing republicans, and though I used to consider myself a liberal, I’m even sicker of the liberals doing nothing but bashing the President, yet not having any ideas about how we are going to FIX things. The country is obviously split down the middle, as the last election has proven. I’ve noticed about most of my friends that did vote for Bush, they did so because they thought Kerry was worse than Bush, not because of any glowing wonderful happy feelings they have for Bush. Are you guys tired of voting for the lesser of 2 evils? I sure am, it has been most of what I have been doing since I started voting over 10 years ago.

The problem? It’s the freaking POLITICIANS!! The people that are running our country are, for the most part, either waaaay on one side of the political scale or the other. What we NEED to unite the country so we can go back to being the coolest country ever, is to get someone that’s middle of the road, yet has some actual IDEAS about how to run the country. And not just for President, either, I think we need to start getting our kind of people in office everywhere, from town aldermen to state senators, to the President him(or her)self.

My proposal? The NAH party. What does NAH stand for, you ask? Well, it stands for the Non-AssHat party, but it stands for so much more. Like saying NAH to evil republicans and NAH to bitching, whining democrats. We’re gonna say, “NAH, we don’t support spending more than our government takes in!” and we’re gonna say, “NAH, we don’t NEED the government to be Big Brother!” NAH stands for the people of America standing up for themselves and taking back their rights, it stands for the government saying to us, “You guys are adults, so we’re going to give you all the rights you deserve.” NAH is against special interest groups except one very important special interest group: the common man. (And women, of course! ;-)

Why is it that the middle class pays out proportionately more in taxes, health insurance, and EVERYTHING ELSE, than the RICH people do? I know, I know, it’s because we middle class make less money and the rich can afford to pay, bleh, ladida, etc. But there are also SO many tax breaks designed for the rich, and we get screwed every which way! There IS a better way to tax, than the way the government is doing now!! Companies get tax breaks making it very beneficial for them to send their labor overseas. Have you gotten tired of calling customer service hotlines and gotten someone who only marginally speaks english? Do you know WHY it’s hard to get someone in a customer service hotline that speaks english well? Because many companies outsource their call center jobs to India, and gets a nice tax break for doing so. Whose stupid idea was this, anyway? It just doesn’t make ANY sense for America to be doing this!!

On gay marriage. Now, I can see where some Christians are coming from when they are against gay marriage. The Bible is clearly against homosexuality. Now, I’m a Christian, and my honest viewpoint on the whole issue is nothing but confusion. I honestly think people are born gay, and there’s nothing they can do about how they are born any more than redheads can help being born with red hair. You can dye your hair all day, but you cannot change what is underneath. So I am confused as to why God would choose to make people be born gay, and then tell us that being gay is wrong. It is one of the biggest questions I have for God once I get to heaven, believe me. Anyway, so the Bible says being gay is wrong, but Jesus told us to “judge not lest ye be judged” and He also told us “love your neighbor as yourself”. So I think we should take His words to heart, and let any 2 adults have the same rights as anyone else.

The government should not be in the business of legislating morality, what the government should say is, “We don’t endorse or deny marriage, what we’re in the business of is business. Any 2 adults that want a civil union can have one, and if you want to call it marriage or handfasting or asshattery is none of our business.” Putting it this way also gives the churches the right to decide if they are going to hold marriage ceremonies for gay people or not. I fully believe churches have the right to not marry gay people if they want. That’s their business.

A few words on healthcare: It really sucks. OK, some more words on healthcare. Basically, I find that it should be handled on the state level, with some money from the federal government to help support those programs. As far as my home state of TN, I think I know how to fix the TennCare problem, at least somewhat. For those unfamiliar with Tennessee’s deal with TennCare, I’ll just say it is a nightmare. There are a bunch of asshats suing to give the people on TennCare every comfort available and bankrupt the program, and the asshats in the government are trying to shut down the whole thing and leave thousands of people that really NEED TennCare up the proverbial creek.

So, what would I do? Well, I think that I would actually raise the income limits on TennCare to about $60,000 a year. However, people would pay for their services on a sliding scale. You get to choose the plan that works for your family. For example, I have a lot of small children, so I would need a plan that has set co-pays for doctor visits and prescriptions. Someone in their 50’s in good health without children would need a plan that’s more like the plan that I have, a $500 deductible, then they pay 80% and the consumer pays 20%. Of course, the plans would cost more depending on how much they covered. But the most important thing is that it would be AFFORDABLE, no more paying more than a mortgage payment for health insurance! This would also hopefully spur competition with the insurance companies, and drive down the cost for everyone else.

These are just a few issues I have ideas on too, I could go on all day, but I would like people to read this and think. We CAN start a revolution! We need to band together and find decent, hardworking people that are NOT politicians and don’t have a bunch of skeletons in their closet so they can’t be crucified by the media. Let’s get an accountant (like my dad, lol) to help us fix the budget problems, and some moms to help us solve the educational problems, and a soldier to help us figure out what to do about the war! The most important part is, we need regular people that are not so far from being an average person, that they forgot what it is like to be the little guy. Like me, I will NEVER forget what it is like to be poor and struggling. I know there are a lot of people out there that are like me.

So, are you in? (Asshats need not apply)
